Washington Commanders right tackle Sam Cosmi underwent thumb surgery on Tuesday, according to The Athletic’s Ben Standig.

Cosmi injured his hand in Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He didn’t miss any snaps during the game but got his thumb evaluated Tuesday before electing to have the surgery.

There is no timeframe for his return. But, Standing previously reported, Cosmi could miss multiple games. Injuries forced Cosmi to miss eight games as a rookie in 2021.

Cornelius Lucas is expected to replace Cosmi at right tackle in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans. The Commanders will have three different faces from Week 1 on the right side of its offensive line when they line up against the Titans.

Both starting and primary backup centers Chase Roullier and Wes Schweitzer are out on injured reserve. Roullier is set to undergo knee surgery this week. Schweitzer is in the concussion protocol.

Meanwhile, right guard Trai Turner has been benched with a lingering quad injury. Now, Cosmi is expected to be out. Washington will trout a makeshift offensive line as Carson Wentz is the most sacked quarterback in the NFL.
