Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India was not able to stick around long for Thursday's night's "Field of Dreams" game against the Chicago Cubs after being hit by a pitch in the first inning. After being drilled near the left ankle, the 2021 NL Rookie of the Year exited the contest with what was called a lower leg contusion.
Reds beat writer Bobby Nightengale reported Thursday that India had not suffered a fracture, but was forced to leave the game due to swelling. He gave an update on Friday afternoon.
Update on Jonathan India: He was airlifted to Iowa City after last night’s game. There was concern how flying might affect the swelling in his leg. He’s in a car back to Cincinnati now and will be at GABP tomorrow.

According to a report from The Athletic, it was "deemed unsafe" for the 25-year-old to fly back with his teammates due to "possible effects from altitude and air pressure" on his leg. India left Monday's game against the New York Mets with a right hamstring injury, but was back in the lineup on Tuesday.
The infielder has already had two stints on the injured list this season with hamstring issues. India is currently slashing .243/.308/.385 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs over 226 at-bats covering 59 games.
