Randy Johnson by the Numbers
With the retirement announcement of Randy Johnson, I decided to take a look back of some of the accomplishments of the future Hall of Famer:
- Johnson was the most recent (and possibly the last) player to reach 300 career wins. He finished with 303 wins which is 5th most all-time among left handers.
- A WHIP of 1.17 and ERA of 3.29 which is simply amazing considering he pitched during the heart of the steroid era.
- 4,875 strikeouts, second all-time to Nolan Ryan and over 700 Ks clear of the Steve Carlton who is second in strikeouts among lefties.
- His 372 strikeouts in 2001 is the third most for a season in the live-ball era and the 11th most all time for a single season.
- Johnson has 5 of the top 10 single-season strikeout totals during the live ball era.
- 5 Cy Young Awards (second all-time) and 10 All-Star games (tied for fourth among pitchers)
- He is the all-time leader in strikeouts per 9 innings pitched with 10.61.
- A 3-0 career World Series record and he was the 2001 World Series MVP along with Curt Schilling.
- One wicked mullet:

- And this unforgettable moment which was one of the first videos I searched for whenever YouTube was launched:

Randy Johnson was the man! I'm glad Giants fans got to see him in the Bay Area in a Giants uniform and getting that #300 win. It's nice cause he's from the Bay Area.

Agree that is one of the best youtube clips out there and most unique in baseball history. The game needs more exploding birds.
